Pursuit of Happyness

Posted in Movies

On a slightly lighter note, a review of ‘Pursuit of Happyness‘, a story of a man’s determination to make a better life for himself and his son. It stars Will Smith and his son and is based on a true story.

Will Smith truly makes this movie. It is his best performance ever. He really got into the emotion of the role. The ambitions and sacrifices and pain of the father. If you have seen it already – that scene in the bathroom! Wow. So much is said by the expressions on Will Smith’s face.

Congratulations to Will Smith on an outstanding performance. I have intense respect for him as an actor, and the story itself will inspire you to seek out greatness in your own life too.

Children of Men

Posted in Movies

Last week we saw ‘Children of Men‘, and I am truly convinced it should win as best movie of the year. I cannot see another movie topping it.

It is an intense, moving and depressing movie. It feels historical in its accuracy, even though it portrays the future – it is an extension of our actions into the future and a reflection of the human condition and our obvious social flaws. It is so much more than just a movie about infertility.

I spent most of my time gripping the seat and probably rarely blinked. It was just amazing.

The production company is giving very little push to this movie. Why, I am not sure. Obviously, a great deal of money went into making it – the effects, the score, the actors. Yet, how many people know what it’s about? Have seen a preview?

I think it’s one of those movies you have to see. It will teach you something about yourself and the capabilities of mankind and the outcome of our ill ways.

Spoofed Christmas Clips

Posted in Funny, Movies

Think you know your favorite Christmas movies? Well, try these on for size – spoofed Christmas favorites. Like "A Charlie Brown Christmas" alternate meaning for what Christmas is all about.

Or "A Christmas Story" turned into a horror movie, freaky as heck. There’s a reason I never liked that movie.

And then there’s one of my alll time favorites, "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" turned into an unrated version where the children discover they don’t need Santa because they have their own "built-in" toys. *Shudder*

Enjoy!

Smurfilicious!

Posted in Movies

The Smurfs are getting a movie!! Scratch that, a trilogy!

According to MovieHole, it will be a 3D movie.

Kerner says he has been researching the popular 80s cartoon extensively. “Having seen all 234 episodes of the show, numerous times, Herb Ratner and I have been working really hard at looking where all the holes were in the episodes – ya’know, like all of a sudden another woman appears, it’s not just smurfette – and what we’ve done is we’ve plugged all those holes in a trilogy of three movies, and we reveal things as we go along”.

“They’re all so very protective of [The Smurfs], so it took me five years of negotiation to get the rights. And then, they were very uncertain about what story we wanted to tell – we weren’t going to tell them until we had the rights, either. Then we got the rights on everyone’s faith that they also had an ability to veto, and presented them with the treatment. They just loved it. To be told that they loved it – not just liked it – and to be told that [creator] Peyo would’ve loved it, is a huge blessing and a great thing to have happen”.

The “Smurfs” trilogy will be “the animated Lord of the Rings – through the world of these idiots. Because they’re sweet characters but they’re goofs. It’s a comic version, but still very heartfelt, version of Lord of the Rings – though not literally Lord of the Rings, but an epic story like that.”

The fan favourite to voice the character of Gargamel seems to be John Lithgow. “Very interesting”, smiles Kerner. “I love John Lithgow”.

Gargamel’s back-story is going to be fully examined in the film trilogy. We’ll learn “[more] about Gargamel and Smurf Soup and how all that began and what really goes on in that castle. What his backstory really was. There’s an all-powerful wizard… there’s all sorts of things that get revealed as we go along”.

Do you think the theatre will be kids or 80s tv show fans like me?

No Hobbit from Peter Jackson

Posted in Movies

Peter Jackson has announced that he will not be making The Hobbit, due to differences with New Line Cinema.

However, The Hobbit will be made. I don’t know how I feel about having The Hobbit made by somebody other than Peter Jackson.

Here is a portion of the explanation:

Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson and his partner, Fran Walsh, won’t be tackling a film version of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit or a second proposed Rings prequel film after New Line told them the studio would be seeking another director, Jackson and Walsh told fans on the OneRing.net Web site. Jackson said that New Line producer Mark Ordesky told Jackson’s manager, Ken Kamins, that the studio was moving ahead with the project without Jackson and Walsh because the pair declined to agree to do The Hobbit as a condition of settling a lawsuit against New Line to recoup income from the Rings films.

"We have always said that we do not want to discuss The Hobbit with New Line until the lawsuit over New Line’s accounting practices is resolved," Jackson and Walsh wrote. But Michael Lynne, co-president of New Line Cinema, insisted that Jackson and Walsh commit to the project before the studio would settle the suit. When Jackson and Walsh declined, "Mark Ordesky called Ken and told him that New Line would no longer be requiring our services on The Hobbit and the LOTR ‘prequel,’" Jackson and Walsh wrote. "This was a courtesy call to let us know that the studio was now actively looking to hire another filmmaker for both projects." [SciFi Wire]

Top 10 Christmas Movies from Blogaholics

Posted in Movies, Opinion

1. The Santa Clause movies… The Santa Clause & The Santa Clause 2 – The Mrs. Clause. I love them! So looking forward to the third one. Of course, to get the full experience, you have to watch them back to back.

2. Miracle on 34th Street (new) & Miracle on 34th Street (old) – such a heartwarming story! I watch this every year. Absolutely every year. I like the new one because Mara Wilson makes the cutest little kid ever. Adorable.

3. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation - Ah, the Griswolds. Chevy Chase is a classic in this movie. I’m not a big National Lampoon’s fans for the other movies, but this one! Every year I continue to enjoy it. Oh, the cat! And getting caught in the attic!

4. The Grinch (new) Dr. Seuss – How the Grinch Stole Christmas/Horton Hears a Who (old) – Jim Carrey won me over here, more than in any other movie. He just was the grinch. Whoville is cute to the point of cutesy sickness. ;)

5. The Polar Express – Now, I will admit it wasn’t as great as I expected it to be. But the story is still very cute, and not like your traditional Christmas movie.

6. Elf - shot here in Vancouver! Plus, my friend Eugene’s dad is an extra in the movie, so that’s pretty cool. Will Ferrell is hilarious though.

7. Prancer – Not many people actually remember this movie, but it’s an endearing story about a young girl who finds an injured reindeer and wants to return it to Santa. There is a sequel to it as well, Prancer Returns, but I don’t recall that one. OOOH, the first one is actually on TV tonight. Good timing!

8. Home Alone – Yeah, I know this is not so much a Christmas movie, but it is set at Christmas and does revolve around the Christmas holidays. I think the first is a classic, but am not as fond of the others (Home Alone 2 – Lost in New York & Home Alone 3)

9. The Original Television Christmas Classics - this is the first movie I ever remember about Christmas. I remember watching it when I was really little. It comes with all the classic stories: Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town, Frosty the Snowman, Frosty Returns, The Little Drummer Boy. The Rudolph story is the only one I remember – a reindeer being ousted from his play fellows because his nose glows red finds a misfit elf – together they run into the Abominable snowman then later save Christmas. The story is really great.

10. The last one I’ll slip in. Most people consider it as intriguing as It’s a Wonderful Life… Myself, I’m not that hot on it. The movie in question is A Christmas Story.… I actually find it rather annoying! But to each their own.
