It’s actually a dog toy. Guinness likes to bite things. Poor teddy will be in shreads soon.

Wouldn’t work for our cats. My dainty Nala likes to perch all 4 paws on the corner so she doesn’t get dirty ;)

A couple of weeks ago, some friends got two new cats and they asked us which Veterinarian office we go to. We visit one not too far from here, which works a good deal with VOKRA (Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue Association), where we got our kitten Guinness.
Anyway, we have been really happy with our service there. The place is called Arbutus West Animal Clinic. They are very nice people and really pay attention to the overall health of our pets. They were very helpful to us when my cat Nala had a lot of stress after we kept Guinness, and we like that they work with the community.
So, we later get a card in the mail. It is a very nice thank you card from Arbutus West for referring our friends to them. The thank you card was hand written and included personal references, like saying hello to Nala and Guinness for them.
This personalized little note made us both feel really good about our choice. We know we are in good hands and that we will continue to refer people there.
I want to bring this up because it is a great example of marketing. But it is so well done, so un-templated and unexpected, that it doesn’t feel like marketing. It feels more like you are a part of a great community.
Word of mouth is very effective marketing. Finding a company that takes the time to appreciate it and say thanks – even better.

We’re now in San Jose. Had a fairly uneventful trip over, watched part of a movie on the plane and have since been relaxing a bit, catching up, going over job potentials and playing with our friend’s baby. So cute. Poor thing is teething with a fever right now but he’s the most adorable baby.
Anyway, tomorrow we’re going to hang out, do some work, check out a good cafe near by, and I have a BlogHer speakers cocktail party for a bit in the evening.
The weather here is basically the same as Vancouver. Hot and muggy, but cooling off for the week. Just like home.
We had a bit of a cat issue. This trip we couldn’t get one person to take care of our cats the whole trip, we had to split it between 3. Fun. Anyway, Ianiv gave the wrong keys to the one who was doing today and tomorrow and it being the first day of the fireworks in Kits, there was absolutely no way to reach anyone or get them to drive through the madness.
Don’t worry, our kitties are fine. They both have enough food, it was today mainly to give Guinness his wet food and check in and say hi. Tomorrow there will be a key exchange some time and it will all work out in the end.
If you are reading this, it means that the move from MovableType to WordPress went without a hitch!
Update: Looks like everything went well :)
