I took my very first trip to Mexico City with Ianiv… for two days. It was a crazy whirlwind trip, but I’m very glad we went – you only turn 80 once, so being there for Ianiv’s grandfather’s party was great.
Although not all of the photos are uploaded yet, I wanted to chronicle the weekend. It started with us flying out of Vancouver at 11:59pm on June 27th, though I think we flew late. After
many painful hours and little sleep later, we arrived to Mexico City. We were welcomed by family and a traditional breakfast that included sweet breads and huevos Mexicanos. My mother-in-law then took Ianiv & I on a driving tour of the city (the first of several) – we went to the city centre and saw the Palacio de Bellas Artes, the Zócalo, and a temple, among other sights.
We then drove to the big central park,
Chapultepec, and snacked a bit. We drove further, getting slightly lost on the way, to El Bazar del Sábado. The huge market was bustling with people, inside and out. Artisans of all kinds selling beautiful things. We ate amazing quesadillas, drank tamarindo, and shopped until we could barely keep our eyes open. We hadn’t slept in 34 hours at this point.
After sleeping for a couple of hours, we went out to dinner with the family. We ate at a little taco place, and I stuffed my face with everything I could, from tacos to chile relleno to torta de milanesa. Topped with some horchata, of course. And churros on the way home ;)
After a full night of sleep, we started off with another yummy breakfast and a very quick trip to the Museo Nacional de Antropología. We saw, in a quick-footed 2 hours, only a very small portion of this amazing museum. A truly humbling experience to witness the greatness of these civilizations.

Just a week tardy! Although I’ve already posted about the Canada Day fireworks, we now have photos online from the afternoon celebrations. We started in North Vancouver at Lonsdale Quay, then took the seabus over to the Canada Place celebrations a couple of hours later. Both areas were packed with people, and the weather was gorgeous. Canada Place had a full day of activities and concerts, including a remarkably long and vibrant concert from 54-40.

We came back to North Vancouver not long after the concert, to prepare for our night out. There was a line for the seabus to return to Vancouver that must have been a couple of hours long, and we came to know that the Ironworkers Memorial bridge was closed from an accident. We saw, later driving to West Vancouver, a line-up for the Lions Gate bridge that was backed up to the previous exit on the highway, and not moving. Had to pity the people sitting in their cars not enjoying the beautiful day.

Ianiv & I set ourselves up in Dundarave for the Canada Day Fireworks. We got a fabulous spot early in the evening, and spent the night eating and reading until we lost the light. It wasn’t too long after that the fireworks began. Ianiv set up the tripod and took a lot of gorgeous shots. It was the perfect night for fireworks.

Our cats have a typical love/hate relationship. Nala dominates the house as the older female cat, but she’s naturally submissive so there’s never been a firm "dominant cat". Guinness loves Nala and wants to spend all his time with her, but as often wants to play with her or try to pin her down.
This moment is really one of those. A calm moment of kitty kisses followed by Guinness attempting to hit Nala in the face. He just can’t resist.
