Ok, we booked it! One month in Europe, the full month of May. We fly in and out of Amsterdam and have booked a full month of rail so we have unlimited freedom each day to go wherever we want without worrying on the flex pass days running out.
We’re not sure yet what to do or where to go. We’re going to make a circle from Amsterdam through Belgium around from Paris to the South of France, then Italy and back up through Switzerland, Germany, etc. That’s about as detailed as we have been, although I do expect we may stay a bit longer in Italy.
If you have advice – hostels, places to see, etc – please leave a comment or Skype me! Would love to get some info.
Very exciting!

Must Do’s:
- Rome (I could spend a month in Rome)
- Paris (ditto)
- Amsterdam (no city like it)
- Ibiza (if you can make it, even 2 nights is totally eye opening, especially around May)
- Lindisfarne (northern England, amazing area, sooo peaceful… stay the night on the island)
- Belfast
- San Fiero
- Santa Lucia
A few things come quickly to mind:
- The best gelato and pizza I’ve ever had are both in Bologna, Italy. I can get you the names if you’re interested.
- The best hot chocolate I’ve ever had is a little shop in Paris, another name I can get you if you’d like.
- If you get a chance I highly recommend Krakow, Poland. It may be slightly (or more) off the path, but it’s one of the coolest cities I’ve ever been to.
There’s lots more, if you want to discuss drop me an email. Congratulations, it should be a blast.
Oooh, I’m so jealous! I’ll be the one coming to you for advice about this trip later, cause I’ve got none to give you now ;)
It is always difficult to offer advice about things that you appreciate to other people whose interests may be very different. But… I take it you are Canadians ? If I am right I think you should at least consider going to Vimy Ridge (near Arras, France) where your countrymen did such a good job on 9th April 1917. Go and see “Canada grieving for her children”. You may email me if you want to know any more.
Thanks everyone for the advice so far! My brain is so full of the upcoming wedding that all I can do is take notes so far, but expect questions in April!!
Oh, it was so smart to wait a month before the honeymoon. I don’t want to be exhausted *before* we start the trip :)
Hey,
if you make your way to Geneva, Switzerland I know of a great, cheap apartment to rent. And since housing is horrendously expensive here, you may want the tip.
Let me know and good luck in any case!!! Happy Honeymoon.
Dorothy,
Could you e-mail me (albenapp@hotmail.com) info about this great and cheap apartment to rent in Geneva. I have been looking for 2 months and no luck.
Thanks,
Al
