Today we went tuxedo shopping. Second day of it, in fact.
We started out last week by visiting the Classy Outlet store – a place in Richmond where you can not only rent tuxes, but buy them. You can buy styles both new and old to their catalogue, so the selection is really quite wide.
Last week I went into the store with absolutely no idea what I wanted in tuxes. I don’t like preconceptions because you really never do know what will look the best on a person. I’ve rented many many tuxedos in my day, so that complicated things a bit. I knew more often than not what I didn’t like, rather than the other way around.
Well, I think we went about it the right way. I changed Ianiv and his groomsman, Eugene, as if they were dolls. In and out of jacket after jacket, and vest after vest. After the first day I left with a headache – both Eugene and Ianiv looked good in the same jacket style, so I had the challenge of needing to distinguish Ianiv. Oy.
So, we didn’t get there the first day. I needed to think and come up with something creative, and also bring along the second groomsmen, Josh. Before going back there we went to another store and were immediately dissatisfied – no selection, no ability to try on exactly what you are getting (just samples, not every style and vest in every option), and really horrible pants. Like MC Hammer ;)
So back to Classy. Back into the tuxes. And into a solution, wohoo! On second glance I am more than happy with the same tux on all three guys. It looks amazing. More of a classic tuxedo jacket style (a la smoking jacket) instead of a modern one. Straight leg pants. I have the groomsmen in black accessories (vest, tie) and plainfront classic shirt, and Ianiv will go in siliver/white accessories and a wingtip shirt. Perfect.
They didn’t have available the matching vest in the white or silver – but the manager of the store kindly offered to check around for us with his distributor, and I’ve found a backup online as well. So, I’m gloriously happy and know my guys are going to look suave and handsome to the extreme. They won’t look like every other guy in a tux – they’ll be quite unique.
Plus, they get to keep their tuxes. Yep, for the price of renting, they have tuxedos they can (if they so wish) use again – jacket, pants, shirt, vest, tie, cufflinks, and even shoes. I’ll share some pictures at some point. hehe.
Great deal. And a check off my wedding list.
Now, tomorrow, we jump down to the US to get the bridesmaid dresses. :)

I want my soon to be husband to wear a tux. He doesn’t want to wear one. So how much would on cast?
In the places we were looking renting one cost about $140.00 CAD. Buying a used one was cheaper or about the same price, depending on the model.
