Google blog search

And why I don’t care.

It’s been done. Really. It’s not a “new” thing, or anything. Does this make me impressed with Google? Heck no, it took them a very long time to catch up to the search game. Is it good? Far from it.

To me, it resembles what’s going on with Technorati right now. When you search a keyword, you’re likely to hit on a whole load of irrelevant information as people just happen to use that word in a recent post. Nothing about context, blog relevancy, or any of that. Unless you happen upon a very good search phrase. You don’t get this much anymore with most traditional web searches. Relevancy has been worked on, and you can usually determine that the first page will have what you need. Not so with blog search.

And, the fact that Google is finally doing what Technorati is not doing well anymore. Well, I’m not all that crazy for it.

Things like this have happened enough in the past few months for me to say “yeah, it will be good to help make blogging mainstream” but… But. That’s just not enough anymore.

Google blog search. Not there yet.

For me it was just a when issue and I find it amusing. Everyone knew Google was bound to eventually get in the game, and most likely do it better than Technorati, so now that it’s happened what is Technorati to do? How far behind can Yahoo! be? And tag searches? I’ve wondered, aloud at times, what real value Technorati has and now I wonder even more.

  2. If you are a blogger and want to find who is linking TO you, the new Google search rocks. Technorati works but only sometimes. As does IceRocket.
