The winners of the 2005 Hugo Awards were announced last night at the 2005 World Science Fiction Convention (Worldcon). The Hugos are awarded for excellence in the field of science fiction and fantasy and are voted on by the fans attending the year’s Worldcon.
This year’s Best Novel is Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke. This is Clarke’s first novel, a tale of two English magicians (as in real magic) in the 19th century who start as teacher and pupil and then become rivals. It’s a fun book, I recommend it.
The Best Novella is The Concrete Jungle by Charles Stross which is available under a Creative Commons license.
The ballot results and full list of winners are available at the Hugo Awards webpage.
