Irish Examiner has an article claiming that showers can lead to brain damage.
TAKING regular showers could pose a health risk and even result in permanent brain damage, scientists claimed yesterday.
Scientists believe that breathing in small amounts of manganese, a metal found dissolved in water, may harm the nervous system.
The damage may occur even at levels of the naturally-occurring metal normally considered safe, say the US researchers.
The scientists claim that, though manganese is monitored, its long term effects in small quantities has not been explored. Additionally, it is not known what vaporized manganese does to us.
“Inhaling manganese, rather than eating or drinking it, is far more efficient at delivering manganese to the brain. The nerve cells involved in smell are a direct pathway for toxins to enter the brain. Once inside these small nerves, manganese can travel throughout the brain.”
Their studies have so far shown some people to be at high risk and some who have suffered from poisoning.
Well, I’d be interested to see where this goes. I mean, it could mean the end of my 20 minute shows. I really do think best in the shower.
