Last week I saw a post on Boing Boing about instructions to start a fire using a piece of chocolate and a can of coke. Last weekend we went camping so I thought it would be the perfect time to try this fire starting method.
I started using the chocolate to polish the bottom of the can but it was taking too long and more chocolate was going into my mouth than on the can. So I just used some real metal polisher we had at home and after a couple of minutes I had a mirror finish.
When we got to the campsite the sun was already low and the trees were blocking most of the light. But I did manage to find the focal point about an inch away from the bottom of the can. And my friends were making fun of me, they are not geeks and couldn’t understand what I was trying to do or why I wanted to try when we had lots of matches. And good thing we had the matches because the next day was pretty cloudy.
I’ll have to try again next time, if the sun decides to shine.
