“The newest computer can merely compound, at speed, the oldest problem in the relations between human beings, and in the end the communicator will be confronted with the old problem, of what to say and how to say it.” -Edward R. Murrow
My 2 cents on Arieanna’s previous post about the blogging terminology.
Not bloggers nor journalists, communicators?
If this is a conversation then it makes both writers and readers communicators. Blogs (computers) enable faster, global communication. But in the end it is us who make it happen, it’s been going on for thousands of years. There is no point in arguing about what to call ourselves or what is the correct way of using this medium. The point is that we can argue about it, or anything else, we can exchange ideas.

I like the word communicate but it also seems to devalue what it is we are doing when we share our ideas in our writing.
I think many times I would not want to be called an author – time’s when I’m just reblogging someone else’s ideas or posting something funny. But other times I want to do what blogging has the power to do – to communicate ideas. Although here I use the word communicate, I would still call it journalism.
