2010 logo

Kris Krug went to the Imagine 2010 conference and picked up a copy of the new logo.

The logo is called Ilanaaq. I don’t like it. Colourful, yes. Canadian? Not so much. It seems like anyone could have made it in photoshop or even in preschool. What’s with the blocks? Anyway… My beef is that it’s not really as symbolic as I would like it to be, despite its Inuit roots and its nice meaning.

It’s a stylized version of a inukshuk, a traditional stone sculpture used by Canada’s Inuit people. Some people think it looks like a hockey goalie. Some people think it looks like the head is a internet chat icon.

Not a lot of logos have names, but this one is special. The word Ilanaaq is Inuit for friend. It’s pronounced (”ih-lah-nawk”).[Kris Krug]
